TapBox
A hardware Ableton Link beat controller built on the ESP32. Tap a button to set tempo and it syncs instantly across every Link-enabled device on your network. It also listens for Pioneer CDJ beat packets, bridging DJ hardware directly into an Ableton Link session — so lighting, visuals and instruments stay locked to the DJ without a laptop in the loop.
Under the hood
Built for the booth
- ESP32 core — tap-tempo detection with sub-millisecond timing
- Broadcasts and follows Ableton Link over the local network
- Listens for Pioneer CDJ Pro DJ Link beat packets and bridges them into a Link session
- Onboard display shows tap BPM, audio-detected BPM and current Link BPM at a glance
- Open firmware — flash your own build or ask us for a finished unit
Concept render — working through the enclosure and display layout before the first physical build.
No app required
Tune it from any browser
TapBox hosts its own web interface — no companion app, no cloud account. Open it from any device on the network to watch tap BPM, audio-detected BPM and Link BPM converge in real time, and adjust detection confidence, level floor and BPM range until it locks exactly the way you want it to.
